Auction FAQ

WHEN AND WHERE IS THE AUCTION HAPPENING?

The Addison Auction is happening on 10/20/2023 at 6.30PM at the Lucie Stern Community Center, 1305 Middlefield Rd, Palo Alto, CA 94301

HOW DOES THE ADDISON AUCTION WORK?

The Addison Auction is a fundraiser consisting of the online auction on a bidding platform (Handbid) and a live event at Lucie Stern. The live auction party is also a great community building event so you can just come and enjoy the party, you don’t have to bid on anything!

A catalog will be available online and distributed to the students with details for all the parties and items available and whether they can be purchased online or at the party.

WHAT IS THE LIVE AUCTION PARTY?

The Addiosn auction party is a celebration of the Addison community and a great event for parents to have fun and reconnect with fellow parents in a kid-free environment. During the event you will be able to bid on the most popular parties and items not available on the online auction.

The “silent auction” will start shortly after the event starts at 6:30pm. You will be able to bid for tickets to parent donated parties. Each party will have a description sheet with the date, starting bid and available tickets. Keep in mind that spots are limited for each party and only the top bidders win so if you want to make sure you get in try to make a competitive bid and remember that all benefits go to the Addison school PTA. You can come back to the party sheet and up your bid if it looks like your bid is not a winner.

After the “silent auction” closes the live auction will start shortly. The auctioneer will offer the most coveted items up for open bidding. This is your chance to snatch the VIP party pass that gives you access to all the “silent auction” parties, as well as other amazing items.

ARE THERE REFRESHMENTS AVAILABLE?

There will be free food, drinks and live music.

IS THERE A DRESS CODE?

This year’s theme is “All White” so dress in all white attire or show up the way you like.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

The entrance to the auction event is free. Signing up to the online bidding platform, handbid, is also free.

IS IT AN ADULT ONLY EVENT?

Yes it is. All adults are welcome. PACCC offers free childwatch. Please sign up here

HOW DO I PARTICIPATE?

Please register or sign up on Handbid in order to RSVP for the event and get a bidding paddle number that allows you to bid online and at the live event. If you don’t have the opportunity to register ahead of time, our hosts will register you when you check in at the event and give you a paddle number.

HOW DOES THE ONLINE AUCTION WORK?

The online auction goes live on 10/15/23 at 6PM and closes on 10/20/23, 5PM. On Handbid, you’ll be able to purchase and bid on parties and items online.

Select the REGISTER NOW at the bottom of the login screen.

WHAT CAN I PURCHASE OR BID ON?

  1. Items, such as vouchers or books
  2. Tickets to parent and teacher hosted parties, such as the Origami party hosted by Annie Harrier.

IS EVERY ITEM OR PARTY UP FOR BIDDING? ARE THERE FIXED PRICE ITEMS?

There are fixed price items and parties you’ll be able to purchase online and at the event. Some items or parties are only available online or at the event.

HOW DO I BID OR MAKE A PURCHASE?

  1. Bidding online on Handbid: After you choose the item or party you would like to bid on, you enter the desired amount. You’ll be able to see other bids and where your bid stands. After the online auction ends, you’ll be notified whether you get the item or ticket(s) to a party or not.
  2. Making a purchase on handbid: You’ll be able to choose from a variety of items and/or tickets to parties and check them out like on any other ecommerce platform.
  3. Bidding at the auction event: When you arrive at the event, you’ll receive a paddle with a number. When the live auction starts and you want to bid on an item, raise your paddle. If your bid is the highest, congratulations!
  4. Making a purchase at the event: When you arrive at the event, you’ll receive a paddle with a number. At the silent “auction”, there will be tables with sign up sheets where you can write your name, contact and paddle number down. The amount of free spots on the sheets represent the availability of tickets or items.

DO I NEED A CREDIT CARD TO BID OR MAKE PURCHASES?

A credit card is required to register but you can pay your balance by check if you prefer, you just have to let us know at addisonauction@gmail.com otherwise your card will be automatically charged. If you have a high balance we actually encourage you to pay by check to avoid paying the processing fees.

CAN I MAKE DIRECT DONATIONS?

Yes. You can donate money directly through handbid or at the event. This year, we have a fund-a-need cause again, which is Bill the Science Guy from the Junior Museum and Zoo.

CAN I MAKE CASH DONATIONS?

Yes. There will be a donation box at the event.

DO I HAVE TO ATTEND THE EVENT IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE?

No. Feel free to join the online auction only (through Handbid).

DO I HAVE TO SIGN UP TO THE BIDDING PLATFORM IN ORDER TO ATTEND THE EVENT?

You don’t have to, but it makes the entire process – such as assigning the paddles to guests – easier.

CAN I GET MY MONEY BACK?

All sales are final. No refunds will be given, so place your bids and/or purchases carefully.
